Overview
History
Recognizing the need for fast, high-quality service at reasonable rates, ABLE COMMUNICATIONS was formed in 1984 by Ed Mallet, Jerry Welborn and Doug Loftin. Ed, Jerry and Doug had many years of experience serving the communications requirements of the Energy Industry in the Gulf area and reputations for getting the job done right.
Combining hard work, integrity and a need almost always promises success. The company is a growing organization serving some of the most prestigious companies in the Gulf area.
In 1995, Doug Loftin retires from ABLE COMMUNICATIONS as a partner. Doug continues to serve as a consultant on special projects.

Service & Installation Capabilities

ABLE has an excellent track record for providing service, installation and engineering on the full spectrum of electronics requirements; including radio, telemetry and navigation systems. ABLE will work with you to set up a customized service or installation program as you require. For example, ABLE can work with you on specific turnkey projects, provide limited equipment, absorb overflow work, or take entire project responsibility. Contract rates can be negotiated.

COMPETENT SERVICE STAFF
Our most important asset is our technicians. They are factory trained and certified on a wide variety of equipment. The technicians have an average of 20 years experience including offshore and overseas work and are the finest team in the Gulf area.

ABLE has a full complement of experienced technicians on emergency standby to provide prompt personalized service.

OFFSHORE DRILLING RIGS & PLATFORMS
Service and installation of Microwave, DRT’s, Rig Intercoms, Inmarsat Telemetry, R.F. equipment including HF-SSB and VHF systems. Also, installation, service and sales of Anti-collision radar.

OVERSEAS
Most of our service personnel maintain valid passports and current health certificates to expedite obtaining visas. ABLE has performed service and installation work on Voice & Data Satellite, HF-SSB, Microwave, VHF, UHF systems and Marine Navigation Electronics from Angola to Rio.

INMARSAT TERMINALS
Commissioning, service and rentals of Inmarsat Terminals are performed on worldwide basis. ABLE maintains a large inventory of spare parts and rental units.

MICROWAVE SYSTEMS
Installation, optimization and maintenance of Analog and Digital Microwave systems including offshore systems. Engineering services include Path Profiles, Path Engineering, Frequency Coordination and FCC licensing.

VSAT SYSTEMS
Site preparation, installation, commissioning and service of VSAT terminals, including remote area locations.

INSURANCE
Workers Compensation and Liability are maintained for domestic U.S., offshore and overseas. Original certificate available upon request.

DEEP SEA VESSELS
ABLE performs the annual FCC Certification for ocean-going ships. Service and installation of Radar, SSB, Inmarsat and Navigation equipment are also provided.

  

 

Milestones
1984
   
ABLE COMMUNICATIONS
Formed by Ed Mallet, Jerry Welborn and Doug Loftin as a service organization specializing in the R.F. needs of the petroleum industry, including offshore. Able joins ENTELEC.
1985   
Services are expanded to include video, telemetry and two-way requirements of petrochemical plants.  Direct dealerships established for a number of leading manufacturers.
1986   
Product lines expanded to include full line of Marine communications, Navigation and Radar equipment.  ABLE completes the installation of a number of turnkey projects for drilling rigs and petrochemical plants.
1987   
International and offshore products and services expanded. Installation of 24 hop, 500 mile microwave system is completed. Service responsibilities assumed for several large petrochemical plants.
1988   
ABLE
awarded MAGNAVOX dealership. Systems integration capabilities expanded to include Mulitplexers and Fiber Optics. Installations completed of DS-3 microwave systems. Service department optimizes backbone network and extends it 110 miles offshore.
1989   
New building completed! Projects completed ranged from several turnkey Digital Microwave systems to the deepest production platform in the Gulf.
1990   
ABLE
receives a commendation for work performed during the Valdez recovery operation. A number of international projects are completed. ABLE builds and delivers five REACT systems.
1991   
Emergency Response Communications Equipment provided to major oil companies and oil well fire fighting in Kuwait. Service responsibilities assumed for radio and emergency communications for several chemical plant co-op networks.
1992   
Several turnkey fiber optic 100 MB Data, Telemetry, Voice and Video projects completed in Petro Chemical Plants. Record number of MAGNOVOX Inmarsat terminals commissioned and delivered.
1993   
Continued expansion in supporting oil companies in their international business. 64 Kbps Inmarsat and Standard M terminals now available. Made Motorola Pinnacle Club for outstanding sales.
1994   
ABLE
growth continues with the addition of land and three buildings. Network systems team added to provide voice, data, video, and fiber optic cable installation. Turkmenistan over 18 moths-installed and maintained communications infrastructure for local and international data and voice for Oil Exploration and Production client. Made Motorola Pinnacle Club for outstanding sales.  Anti-collision radar systems installed on new deep-water tension leg production platforms in Gulf of Mexico for safety concerns. This began a trend that has become almost standard on platforms this size.
1995   
Capabilities for overseas projects expanded with new personnel and facilities. New security and emergency alarm products for petrochemical plants. American Mobile Satellite awards ABLE dealership for exciting new service for domestic and 500 mile offshore coverage. ABLE now offers Mobile Satellite Products Standard “B” LYNXX Inmarsat terminal from California Microwave. Received award from Mitel out standing Sales Support.
1996       
Provided and installed Satellite communications for pipeline construction projects in Mid-Western USA.
Hurricane Andrew in Florida – responded to petroleum company needs to restore retail gas operations by deploying emergency communications contract to assist the state agency responsible for oil spill and clean up.
1997   
Provided equipment and installation personnel to a major U.S. oil company for their new refinery in Mexico. Perimeter security monitoring and video equipment was installed to assure a safe working environment.
1998    
Hurricane George – deployed portable Satellite equipment into Gulf of Mexico to assist in re-start of platforms evacuated by storm.  Several responses-domestic train de-railments involving hazardous cargo recovery and containment deployed emergency communications equipment to response crews during the Florida fires.  Provided onshore and offshore radio and telephone communications for several pipeline “pulls” from Texas onshore location to Louisiana offshore location for gas production.  Provided and installed Satellite communications for the London Bridge project in Nevada. Back-up for fiber optics.  Provided portable Satellite equipment for visually impaired mountain climber that enabled the world to follow his progress to the peak.
1999   
Deployed technical personnel to Lagos and other areas of Nigeria for a U.S. oil company to install and commission microwave and satellite communication systems onshore and offshore for drilling support operations.  Commissioned and deployed satellite and two way radio systems nationwide to pipeline companies, oil companies, and major banks for y-2k response.  Installed the first series of remote controlled intrinsically safe camera systems for coker units in a local refinery. The system is used as a safety monitor to prevent injuries during the coker`s operation.
2000
Work continued in Equatorial Guinea and Trinidad providing technical and sales support. Domestically, we continue our support to school districts, response groups, refineries, and began a year project with a large deep sea tanker company installing computer systems aboard the vessels and relaying the vessel the management information to their corporate office via satellite and RF systems.
2001
Deepwater drilling and exploration in the Gulf of Mexico produced new construction sales of anti-collision radar and marine radio communications. ABLE was involved in providing equipment for the first tension leg platform utilizing a new hull design and placed into production in the offshore Louisiana Prince Field.  Made Motorola Pinnacle Club for outstanding sales.
2002
Installed microwave and network equipment in topside quarters for addition to Trinidad / Tobago field.  Deployed to Equatorial Guinea to install camera systems and preventative maintenance on microwave and radio systems to support drilling and production operations.  Became  Inmarsat, Iridium, globalstar airtime provider.  Provided domestic pipeline company twenty-eight satellite systems for their back up communications.  Provided wireless network data and voice connectivity for remote Colorado drilling operations.
2003
Awarded contracts  for four new deepwater platforms being built in Korea ,Texas, and Louisiana.   ABLE to provide helicopter homing beacons, and radar systems for detecting potential collision danger from vessel traffic in their vicinity.  Installed eight remote controlled camera system in Coker unit for local refinery as safety prevention.  Deployed project manager to Egypt to integrate satellite and network system for offshore drilling .          operations.  Awarded contract and installed the GMDSS station for new jack up rig at construction yard, in Vicksburg  Mississippi.  Provided 40 plus Globalstar handheld satellite phones for a major gas pipeline company for remote communications.  Made Motorola Pinnacle Club for outstanding sales.
