To call
the INMARSAT
The
INMARSAT system consists of four ocean areas. Each is covered by a satellite.
Each satellite is assigned a "Country Code," thus, the international
dialing.
Atlantic
East - 871
Atlantic West - 874
Pacific Ocean - 872
Indian Ocean - 873
NOTE: From Houston, 874 is the code of the satellite we use.
Dial: (International outward dialing code used in the country you are calling from, for example, in the U.S., it is 011+XXX (ocean area)+XXX-XXXX (unit ID)

Data
Calls
This
is an analog channel, so modems will be required. Use modems that auto fall
back to lower speeds in case the signal quality requires this. If problems
occur, refer to instruction book on how to deactivate companders in the
satellite.
Telex
Hit
request button then hold down the number "1" until the telex screen
comes up, access files, cursor to desired file, hit return. ZXZX cancels
message.
Test Numbers
91# VOX 91+ Telex
Second
Port
The
unit has one voice channel, but two distinct I.D. numbers that it can receive
calls on. They each have their own RJ-11 port marked main and aux. The main
port is used for voice calls, the auxiliary port is used for direct receipt of
fax or data calls.
Antenna
Aiming (MX2400T / MX2400T+)
The
antenna unit has a receive signal strength meter on the back. The satellites
are located above the equator as indicated on the map. Set the "best
guess" elevation (35 to 40 degrees in Houston) and move the antenna back
and forth in the general direction of the satellite (Southeast from Houston.)
If no signal, move the elevation about five degrees then try again. Then set
the elevation for best signal. Remove the compass from the back of the unit
before using for direction finding. Compass reliability is affected within 5
to 10 feet of the transmitter.
